Creating the Image Part IV of IV – Final Product

Last but not least, we’ve reached part four of Creating the Image, our new blog series that breaks down and takes an in depth look at what really goes into making Chris’s personal, conceptual portraiture. Back in January of this year we created some persona work, with the intention of not only making amazing images, but documenting the entire process from concepting and brainstorming, to shooting, editing, retouching and all the way to the final product. When a shot is finished with retouching, it simply doesn’t sit around on our archives, taking up space. In the case of our advertising and editorial work, there are the final steps of delivering the finished product, whether it’s an FTP transfer or a Fedex’d hard drive. With personal work, the final step is a little bit different. Much in the same way that we control the process from concepting to shooting to retouching, we also have full control of how we use the finished image; how we distribute it, when we share it on the blog and the web, if we want to use it for promotional projects and portfolios. First and foremost, we made sure to get the finished photo up on our website as the first image in the portfolio. It goes without saying that you should always keep your online portfolio fresh, and there’s no better way than to introduce a new landing page image every few months

Aside from the showcase on our website and the coverage of the photo on our blog, we made sure to share the image on our other online portfolios like At-Edge and Workbook.

And of course we printed the picture. We made big prints…

And small prints. Beyond all of the in-house printing, there are even a few outlets where we’ve sent this photo that may not be released until later this year. Don’t worry though, we’ll keep you up to date when we can share more.

The photos above might look somewhat similar to the Promotional Book we released last year. With new photos to show, we thought it would only make sense to have an outlet in which to show them, hence the creation of our third collection of Chris’s work in small, handmade book form.

And we printed postcards – tons and tons of postcards. We printed so many that we’ve actually got a handful leftover. Want one? We’ll mail it to you! Give us a shout out on twitter  and we’ll put one in the mail to you.
