After wrapping up our shoot in Los Angeles, we had an extra day in southern California to explore and shoot some landscapes. Big thanks to Dave Hill for recommending a super-secret spot out in the desert where movies like Planet of the Apes and Lost in Space were filmed. Read more to take a look at some more behind the scenes shots I snapped along the way.

Through photography, I have been very fortunate to meet and photograph some very special people. A few weeks ago I was able to cross one of the top-tens off my list… a photoshoot of 41 frames, six months in the making, and more than a few years planning in my mind. That’s all I can say about that shoot for now, but I promise we’ll write a post about the entire experience when we can share more next week.

For now though, I thought I should share my current top ten list, the 10 people that I would bend over backwards to photograph. So, if any of you know anyone on this list and want to make an introduction, I can promise a framed print, and a few cases of beer for your help.

Ten People I dream of photographing

1. President Barack Obama
2. Jack White
3. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with former President Bill Clinton – photographed together
4. Sir Anthony Hopkins
5. Will Farrell
6. Steve Buscemi
7. The Black Keys
8. William Eggleston
9. Bill Cosby
10. Madonna

Almost made the cut -You could call these the top 26…

11. Michael Jordan
12. James Murphy
13. Christopher Walken
14. William Wegman
15. Laird Hamilton
16. Derrick Rose
17. Lebron James
18. Kevin Spacey
19. Lady Gaga
20. Chuck Close
21. Angelina Jolie
22. Javier Bardem
23. Mike Tyson
24. Tom Brokaw
25. Meryl Streep
26. Coen Brothers

So that being said, who do you want to photograph? Who would be on your photography “bucket list”?

Somehow, I managed to miss the month of February this year. As the end of January rolled around, Chris and our team decided that we were going to head down to Florida for six days to shoot a new body of work for his portfolio. Part of my job was to head down early and run logistics for the shoot – transporting a lot of our gear from Philly, rounding up rental gear in Florida, stocking our rental house with food and (necessary) beverages. I packed for eight days.

I was gone four weeks. Continue Reading for what happened and some never before seen behind the scenes iPhone shots…

Everywhere we travel, I try and find time to make photographs. We spent a good portion of the winter this year down in Florida and the southeast, working on personal and commercial projects, creating a new body of work, and shooting some editorial assignments. I also made time to shoot a few landscape photographs, like the image above, of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Keep reading to see a few behind the scenes shots and another landscape from this winter in Florida.

chris crisman photography studio manager robert luessen photography photographer
It’s been quite a year. But before I get started, let me introduce myself – I’m Robert, Chris’s studio manager and full time first assistant. I worked my first freelance assisting gig for Chris exactly one year ago today, it just seems fitting to think back and say a few words.

After working freelance for Chris for a few weeks, he offered me the opportunity to come on full time. A lot of days on set, a lot of building and breaking down C-stands and octabanks, and about 20,000 miles of travel later, it’s been a busy year. Keep reading for a few more photos and some of my thoughts on the past year.
