After seven days on the island so far, two days of tech-scouting, and one day of shooting without talent, today finally arrived. Our shoot today marks the first of five days with models, five days of making awesome photos with people for Travaasa Hana. Mother nature cooperated, our models were talented and charismatic, and the entire crew was working like a well-oiled machine. We couldn’t asked for a better shoot day.

Today marks the first official shoot day for our project with Travaasa Hana. As usual, the day started early – before sunrise, for a trek to Fagan’s cross, the giant stone cross overlooking the town of Hana, Hawaii. The sunrise up here was incredible, making for great photos, the first of many in an awesome day of photography.

Our second day of tech scouting started early, before dawn. The crew met up and hiked out in the dark to the red sand cove for a sunrise shot. Although it was super early, it was a great way to start the day.

Today marked the first in two days of location scouting for our shoot at Travaasa Hana. Prior to any project that is as extensive as what we’re about to begin, it is really important that all of the details and specifics are worked out – the beauty of tech scouting is that we can bring along the whole crew, shoot a few photos to jog our memories, and plan out the shots in detail to make everything flow way smoother when we’re actually shooting.

Ten thousand feet – traveled vertically. Today started at the ocean and ended quite literally at the top of the world. We knew coming into this project that Hawaii holds some amazing natural beauty, but today we were lucky to experience sights that I don’t think you can find anywhere else on this earth – at least all in the same place.
